442nd Quidditch World Cup...

HELLO POTTERHEADS!!!

How has everyone been? Good!

Time to get back to my collection since the last few posts have been other Potter-related stuff.

Did you know that in Goblet of Fire, the Prop Department designed full programs and maps for the movie, just in case it was seen in the shot... Talk about dedication and attention to detail!

In the Harry Potter Film Wizardry and Harry Potter Page to Screen books, props are brought to life and this is how these images have made their way online (I do not own either of these books but would really love to). While searching deviantART, I came across the poster for 442nd Quidditch World Cup. After searching further, I found the programme on the HP wiki page and saved them. I then placed them on a word document to make sure they were all the same size, printed them off and glued/stapled them together.

 

Once printed, to put it together, you stick the checked pages on the back of the cover and the other pages on the back of the centre pages (they are not like this in the document but I'm sure if you wanted to you could modify the images before printing). I found it good to stick the pages back-to-back because it made the final product sturdier. If you printed it back-to-back properly, I suggest you use card stock to add quality to the final product.

Another important prop from the World Cup is the map. This map was also on the wiki but is off a lesser quality - but still extremely good for something you can make yourself. I'm not sure what is on the back of the map but I added the poster that is similar to the front of the programme. Again, instead of printing back-to-back I glued them together, making it nice and sturdy (like the programme use card stock for back-to-back printing). The poster was found on deviantART and she has added her profile signature to the poster so you can check her out. She has some other amazing Potter art.

I Soleomly Swear That I Am Up To No Good...

Hello Potterheads!

I have already finished two of my seven exams - both English. It dawned on me that many of you, being from different parts of the world, wouldn't really know/understand what the HSC is. In simple terms,the HSC is equivalent to the N.E.W.Ts.

Anyway, now that that has been cleared out of the way, let me introduce you to another item in my collection, and one that you can have too!

As I have already mentioned, I have two Marauders Maps - one is the official Warner Brothers Map and the other is a downloaded one (for my cousin and friends).

The second map I found while trolling the internet for ways to make props for my cousin. I'm not sure how I came to find this site, but I found it all the same. A women named Britta Peterson had designed a Marauders Map that showed the main areas of Hogwarts, was easy to print out and easy to fold together. She was even nice enough to include the folding directions in the PDF file! Here is the link to her website.

 

While searching for more prop replicas, especially on deviantART [I suggest you sign up and follow some of the amazing artists that replicate and share some of their prop creations and just general art!] I found a similar map that had used Britta's folding design and some of the details to make a map. Here is that version. I am yet to print and fold the second version, but I will so that I can compare which one I want to use for my cousin and my friends.

If you want a larger map with the movie detail, this map may be more for you. I haven't made it but I may in the future.

So that is my Marauders Maps. I hope that it has inspired you to either buy the official copy or make your own!

Before the Beginning

Hello!

As many of you may [or should] know, J.K. Rowling wrote an 800 word prequel to the series, written in 2008 for charity. It is set three years before the birth of Harry and recounts an adventure of Sirius and James. This story has been available online since July 2008 and just by searching for the prequel, you will be able to find the story.

Let me just leave the prequel for the minute. For my cousin's birthday, I have decided to give her a box (hopefully a trunk)  full of Potter items. I have made a list of over 30 items! Since she is only just working her way into the fandom, I thought she probably hasn't read the prequel yet. This gave me the idea to include it in the trunk.

To help save space, I decided to make a little booklet. I created a front cover, including the Hogwarts crest, and a back cover, including the comment written by Rowling on the original text. Then I condensed the text down to four of the booklets page. 

To print, I made the first page coloured (pink) then printed the other pages back-to-back. Then I just cut it out and stuck it together. To make the cover more sturdy, I stuck a piece of red paper on the inside.

 The first copy I made is for myself. I have to adjust the paper in the printer to ensure that the pages line up (you can see in the photo that the page line crosses the bottom of the first page).

That's all for now. I am currently sitting my HSC (High School Certificate) so I am studying heaps. I will be able to schedule posts though (just like this on). My final exam is on the 4th of November so from them on I'll be able to firstly finish my cousin's trunk and secondly contribute more to the blog.

P.S - I am currently listening to the HP audiobooks read by Stephen Fry - he is absolutely amazing at reading the books. Highly recommend you listen to them if you haven't already!
